Good Morning World!

I just got up from bed now and am sitting in front of the computer with a glass of milk and today's newspaper in my hand. Thought about blogging something and since I didn't get any topics to discuss about, am just rambling my random thoughts here....

Chickening Out:
Bird flu or avian flu is in the headlines these days since they found out its existence in Navapur, Mumbai. Scores of chicks are killed everyday, even the healthier ones. I just love to eat chicken (self obsessed non-veg) and am worried when will I be able to taste it again. My mom, after seeing the reports and hearing from neighbors have even thrown away the eggs that was in store and has given me an ultimatum to net eat "chicken puffs" from canteen! Fearing my life, I have obliged. Yeah, I know how serious avian flu is and the consequences of this viral disease. But I would like to take a moment and pray for all those chickens' souls who have been slaughtered in the name of bird flu!

Jessica Lal:
Read about the verdict passed out by a lower court in Delhi in the sensational Jessica Lal murder case. Most of you would have read/heard about it, so am not going into the details. Whatever the courts findings were, I believe this is gross injustice. I had followed this story in 1999 and it was very evident that the guy called Manu Sharma (son of a politico) had shot her point blank!! It happens only in India!

Google and The Hindu
Google had integrated Google Talk into its Gmail application a week or two back and I was quite surprised to see a half page article in The Hindu about it now!! That too, the reporter has said that Google is only rolling it out for the past 3 days!! Hello... which world are you living in! I integrated it two weeks back! Talk about fourth estate, phew!

I have also made some observations about Hindu's news reporting. Almost 3/4th of their articles are sourced from different news aggregators - Reuters, AFP, Associated Press, PTI (Press Trust of India), New York Times News Service, The Guardian, etc. etc. With the advent of Internet, I am sure half the readers would have already read what Hindu prints. Hindu spends its own money for local news and political news!! Thinking of seriously changing my subscription, but we don't have other alternatives, do we??

I have finished drinking milk and since I didn't find much to read in the paper, have also stopped reading it. Let me go check out some news channels and catch up with what happened around the world when I was asleep ;-)

Ariyaatha pillakku choriyumbol ariyum!

As a kid/teenager, my only source of information to learn malayalam was Manorama Publications' Balaram, a children's fortnightly and my granny. I still vividly remember how she used to teach me the basics of malayalam whenever I come to Kerala on vacations. My granny was also a great source of amazement for me as she used malaylam proverbs or the so called "pazham chollu" every now and then. These proverbs, though small in length and use, had deep insights! Though I can read/write Malayalam today, thx to Balarama and my granny, I used to miss her proverbs a lot. But not anymore!! Thanks to this Wikipedia link , forwarded to me by Vinay
