Effects of War!

Nguyen Thi Van Long, 20, with birth defects believed to be caused by Agent Orange, works in her classroom at the Friendship Village on the outskirts of Hanoi, Vietnam on Wednesday, March 29, 2006. Civilians and Vietnam war veterans from several countries held a two-day conference to plead for recognition of health problems they say are associated with Agent Orange, the chemical defoliant U.S. forces sprayed during the war .

Octagon Cricket Series - Arsenal Vs. Manchester United!

The second match of the day saw Arsenal taking head on with Manchester United. Manchester United, lead by Bala of Delta started the batting got off to a shaky start after the superb bowling performance by Bala of FRM, where he took 2 wickets each in 2 overs. But Manchester United steadied their innings slowly and kept the run rate high and managed to make a behemoth total of 69 runs in he allotted 8 overs. Though their top order vanished without a trace, the middle order and tail enders played well, compounded with the extras that Arsenal was giving. In return, disaster struck Arsenal and their known batsmen perished soon with adding very little to the score. Thanks to the brave innings from Gopu and GK of Arsenal towards the end of the innings, Arsenal was able to save their face from a huge loss. Manchester United had a great bowling line-up and they bowled in perfect line and length. In the end, Manchester United won by 31 runs. Detailed scores:

Octagon Cricket Series - Liverpool Vs. Chelsea!

On day 3 of the Octagon Series, Liverpool took on Chelsea in the first match. Chelsea batted first and got off to a decent start thanks to the brilliant knock by Rajeev and Juby. Juby couldn't materialize his brilliant start and got out fast. Though wickets fell at regular intervals, the run rate was always high thanks to Rajeev's brilliant knock and the contribution from other batsmen. They ran hard and the score board kept ticking. At the end of allotted 8 overs, Chelsea took 58 runs. With a target they were confident of achieving, Liverpool's Raghu and Niyas opened the innings. Raghu, in his usual style, got off to a good start, but at a crucial point in the match, he had to return to the dressing room because of the 20-run restriction. Niyas couldn't add much. Chandru steadied the innings, but Chelsea, with some brilliant bowling from Rajeev and Co., came on top and got the important wicket of Chandru. Then it was a nail-biting finish and till the last ball was bowl

Google has Ask for competition

Google has clearly been the undisputed leader in internet search and has no real competition. But now, Ask.com , the revamped version of the old Ask Jeeves (they recently removed their Butler and even have a retirement page dedicated to him), throws up some competition for Google. Walt Mossberg, my favorite tech writer, reviews the new Ask.com vis-a-vis Google. Read the article in WSJ

Peak Day Blues' Octagon Series - Valencia Vs. Juventus!

In the second match of Day 2, Valencia took on Juventus. Juventus won the toss and elected to field. Antony and Rajesh opened the batting for Valencia. Before Rajesh could register a score, because of a bad call from Antony, was run out. Antony was in his best elements, flying all over the field ;-) He even disrupted the match in between by sitting in the middle of the ground! Juventus worked together as a team in the field, but they had too many extras under their scalp which helped up the Valencia score. At one point in time, Extras was the highest scorer. Juventus in return started off well, but some tight bowling from Valencia brought their run rate down. It was a very tight match with each passing ball turning the match upside down. Valencia ran out of their regular bowlers towards the end of their innings and had to resort to irregular bowlers and this proved to be the turning point of the match. The match went into a frenzy, when in the last over, Ajith, the captain of the Juven

Peak Day Blues' Octagon Series - Barcelona Vs. Real Madrid!

Day 2 of the Octagon Series saw the Group B teams taking on each other. The first match was between the mighty Barcelona and Real Madrid. Barcelona won the toss and strategically decided to take the willow first. Ranjith and Lal opened the innings. Though it was a slow start, both of them played well and Ranjith top scored with 20 runs. Reyas and Hari also played valuable innings in steadying the team's score. RC, though came late, had an important partnership with Hari, which saw the team reaching a respectable score of 55 runs. RR & Jagan were the last to play with RR adding 2 more runs to the score. In reply, Real Madrid played with grit and determination. They took most of their runs in singles as Barcelona team had a very strong line up of fielders in the outskirts! Rajiv, imitating Jonty Rhoes, did some spectacular fielding and saved quite a few valuable runs. In the end, in a very closely fought match, Real Madrid won with only few balls remaining. Here's how the sco

One of my best innings!

Please don't think this is self boasting, but today I played one of the best cricketing innings in my life. In the Peak Day Blues' Octagon Cricket Series, my team, Barcelona were up against a formidable opponent, Real Madrid. We opted to bat first (detailed match analysis will follow later), and we were walking a tight rope. After a few wickets fell, it was time for me to show the boys and girls how "cood" a cricketer I am. Calling "Jai Bajrang Bali", I went into bat. Sathish N, the tricky spin bowler was ready to bowl at me with a vengeance. He bowled a googly at me which I hit straight off to mid off. Everyone cheered thinking it's a four, but a stupid fellow stopped it. Yes, I scoared 1 run! Hari was at the other end. The next ball, he swept to the cover leg and we ran 3 runs. Man O Man, it's been years since I ran that hard! But what the heck, I added 3 more runs, by way of running and not getting run out, to our team's total. I was gasping a

Here's how the scores look: The second match was between Manchester United and Chelsea. Manchester United amassed 75 runs in their allotted 8 overs, but Chelsea could only get 54 runs in 8 overs. Boost is the secret of my energy!

I got a free "sehwag" autographed tennis ball when my mom bought a packet of Boost from the supermarket last week. Was sitting simply on Sunday evening, with no power in the house, when I decided to hone my so called "cricket skills". Took the "sehwag" ball and went to the terrace of my house for a little practice. Since I didn't have a bat or another fellaw to bowl at me, I decide to try my hands at bowling. As the wall on one side of the terrace was lengthy, I started bowling towards that end. The first ball went shoom... to the paddy field next to my house!! It was a big bouncer u know! After running down and getting my "sehwag" ball back, I decided it's time for some batting practice. Took a broken furniture piece which was lying on the terrace, pumped the ball up in the air and shooom.... ball came down before I swung my bat! Tried a lot, for nearly 30 minutes with this idea. Finally, closed my eyes and hit and voila, the ball flew
