Indian Farmers Woes!

Indian Farmer
60% of Indians are officially categorized as farmers, for whome, the Indian success story so far with IT/BPO/ITeS doesn't hold much. That's one of the main reasons why the India Shining campaign from the BJP gang didn't pay rich dividends and the Congress, playing on the common man card came to power.

But here's a savior who could possibly help these farmers and change their lives for good - you might have heard the name already - Wal-Mart

I know some of you will read this with raised eyebrows as you have read about the Leftist parties already raising slogans against the American Imperial Wal-Mart which will thwart the farmers.

Here's a piece which appeared in WSJ written by Salil Tripathi which tell us how Wal-Mart's retail foray into India or that of Reliance's big retail plans can actually help Indian Farmers raise up the value chain, thereby truly making India the true global economic power to reckon with.

Ariyaatha pillakku choriyumbol ariyum!

As a kid/teenager, my only source of information to learn malayalam was Manorama Publications' Balaram, a children's fortnightly and my granny. I still vividly remember how she used to teach me the basics of malayalam whenever I come to Kerala on vacations. My granny was also a great source of amazement for me as she used malaylam proverbs or the so called "pazham chollu" every now and then. These proverbs, though small in length and use, had deep insights! Though I can read/write Malayalam today, thx to Balarama and my granny, I used to miss her proverbs a lot. But not anymore!! Thanks to this Wikipedia link , forwarded to me by Vinay
