When Elephants Attack!

Hailing from the state of Kerala, I've been brought up to respect Elephants and its sensitivities. I don't know when I turned into a die-hard elephant lover, but I believe the over exposure to elephants through various "poorams" at my native helped a great deal in this.

Elephants by nature are tame and by no way they have any intentions to hurt anyone. But, if provoked they can go to any extent. I've personally seen it in my childhood as to what happens when an elephant gets angry.

But this video, which was forwarded to me via mail, was horrifying. This incident happened in Chettuva, Thrissur during a mosque's annual celebrations on 09.04.07. The elephant named "Vinayan" became angry seeing the treatment meted out to another elephant and attacked its mahout and killed him.

Watch this gruesome video only if you are not faint at heart!!

PS: Here's another video taken by a videographer at the event, which is more gruesome

  1. Buddy, not many would prefer watching videos of intense graphical nature, which might tend to lead to emotional stress and other symptoms.

  2. Yeah, even i do agree and that's why I gave a spoiler warning too... but to know how dangerous an animal can get and to make people aware of their dangers, I believe this video will help...

If we can watch such programs of graphical nature in AXN, then y not!

  3. The programs being telecasted in AXN with graphical content such as World's Amazing Videos and Maximum Exposure strictly restrict to mild accidents and mishaps.... but when it comes to videos involving death casualties, it's a strict no-no from their part as far as I know....

  4. Ahem Ahem!! The video grab I've put was telecast on Kairali TV! This was also telecast on other national channels and is even available in reuters website...

As I told you previously, it is not to sensationalise but to sensitise!

  5. No issues, mate... I agree with you.

  6. It's not the animals that are dangerous, as you say.. it's the people who are dangerous.. Why do you want to torture animals in the name of festivals, making them stand for hours in the hot sun, with all the crackers and heavy music around them, not to mention the millions of people sorrounding them during Pooram.. I would get shit mad if i was an elephant..

Ariyaatha pillakku choriyumbol ariyum!

As a kid/teenager, my only source of information to learn malayalam was Manorama Publications' Balaram, a children's fortnightly and my granny. I still vividly remember how she used to teach me the basics of malayalam whenever I come to Kerala on vacations. My granny was also a great source of amazement for me as she used malaylam proverbs or the so called "pazham chollu" every now and then. These proverbs, though small in length and use, had deep insights! Though I can read/write Malayalam today, thx to Balarama and my granny, I used to miss her proverbs a lot. But not anymore!! Thanks to this Wikipedia link , forwarded to me by Vinay
