New Look ET!

[Ah Finally... One fine morning I think it ringed in someone's brain sitting in the higher echelons of Economic Times that there is something seriously wrong with its online edition.] Economic Times, one of the most respected and widely read pink papers of India had a very bad GUI in their home page all these years. It was a pain to read through the articles cluttered with huge banner ads. The new site has a clean, classy look. Good job! Click here to read my previous rant about their webpage!

Dot Com Jobs!

With the indian economy in fifth gear, thanks to a booming IT/BPO domain and with jobs galore, indian job sites had never had it so good. If Sanjeev Bikhchandani, the founder of Naukri.com made his place in the Millionaire's Club list after his company's IPO, international brands such as Monster.com has a dedicated indian subsidiary. And thanks to this boom, there are more jobs out there than resources and poaching is the buzzword these days for companies in India. Monster India recently launched a Video Profile service for employers. "Monster Video Profile is aimed at employers who are conscious of attracting the best talent and it is a tool to position their organizations as the best places to work." As for Naukri.com, it launched a new website asknaukri.com. "The First website of its kind in the Indian online space, asknaukri.com aims to be the best possible credible source of information relating to career needs across the work life span of a user." And

Ugh ho! Not Again

Last weekend when I visited my in-laws at Cochin, there was a heavy mix of vegetable curries for lunch & dinner. Me being a staunch non-veggie, I was feeling the pinch. Why so much of veggie dishes I ask and pat came the answer. Apparently, Reliance's mega retail project, now in a vegetable vendor avataar has kickstarted in this part of India. Christined Reliance Fresh, they've opened small mom-and-pop kind of stores in almost all the major parts of Ernakulam. Me being a follower of all the latest trends, I thought of checking out one and clicking a few snaps for all of you to see. But voila, the shop is closed. They had to close down because a "particular organization" has decided to ransack the place that evening coz they feel MNCs/INCs are eating up poor man's livelihood. But from what I understood, vegetables & fruits were being sold at half the prices and the consumers a.k.a the common man was really happy and could afford more. But the super powers t

Reincarnation!

I know this is my second consecutive post on an Oddly Enough item, but I just couldn't stop myself. Apparently a 14-year-old boy in an Indian village is claiming himself to be the reincarnation of a US Scientist. The boy who had until now studied in Hindi medium and has never travelled abroad, speaks good American Accent and is adept at Physics & Maths. Continue reading

Hum Tum; Humare 23!

Believe it or not, an Indian couple in Haryana have 23 children in total!! And surprise of all surprises, they are already planning for the 24th! While it's good to pass time with your romantic half by telling you will have 10 or 20 children one day, I don't think anyone in their wildest dream would have ever dared proving it right. Though one can look up to them with amazement, I'm really sad that such illiterate and ignorant people are the root causes for India's stupendous population growth. Read more

Boeing 747 @ Rs 1,600!

A cycle worth Rs 91,000! A motorcycle worth Rs. 11 lakhs! A moped valued at Rs. 90 lakhs! 70gms gold valued at Rs. 20 lakhs! Boeing 747 jumbo is worth only Rs 1,600!! Big B @ Naval Base!

Caught this on the outskirts of Naval Base, Cochin. It's urging the local residents not to throw garbage out in the open as it will attract birds causing trouble for Naval Air Carriers.... And btw, that's our Big B as the brand ambassador!

Silicon Kerala Valley!

Silicon Valley and Standford University is famous for moulding young minds to create multi-million dollar enterprises through their education, innovativeness and entrepreneurship.... Here's another similar story that's emerging from strike-hit Kerala where a bunch of young Engineering Graduates have created a billion dollar company. Introducing to you, Torque Technologies , a start-up formed by 8 engineering students based in Technopark, Kerala. They started it with Rs. 8 laks as seed capital and is today valued at over $7 million. What's their mainstay? SMS based mobile promotion campaigns. PTI (press trust of india) has a nice write-up about these young turks, which appeared in MSM's today. Here's the article PS: Defence Minister AK Antony's son Anil K Antony is one among them :-)

Social Networking!

Remember the Bollywood hits of 70's, where siblings will get lost in a mela and will reunite once they grow up, either through a tatoo or through a family song?? Well, thanks to Social Networking sites, a trio in the US were reunited after they were seperated in childhood coz of a broken marriage of their parents. Read on Personally, I think social networking has done to mankind what no other invention has done in terms of building human relationships. Through Orkut , I've found many of my college/school mates whom I've lost contact with!

Enough of Paris!

Well, well... I was in for a pleasant surprise today morning.. Hindu had reported about a story in their last page, which speaks about a MSNBC news anchor, who refused to read the story about Paris Hilton... Well, if you remember, I had just lamented Paris Hilton last week in this post ... What a coincidence! Am extremely happy that there are others around the world who think alike.. Mika Brzezinski you are a hero to me. Journalism should not end up as celebrity gossip! Indian media, please take note. We are sick and tired of you promoting Yash Raj/Karan Johar flicks instead of news! Here's the famous footage! Do watch it...
