Mobile Mania

That India registered the most number of new mobile subscribers in a month, exceeding China in Nov/Dec is known to all. This only goes on to prove how HOT indian mobile market is. Obviously, after the wireless carriers, it is the mobile handset companies that rake in the moolah. Nokia is the undisputed leader in India, closely followed by the likes of Motorola, Sony, LG and Samsung. These handset makers, in order to make cheaper phones, have also started building their product-development centers in India. Recently, Motorola launched the cheapest branded mobile handset available in India. Called the MOtorola F3, this sleek looking cellphone costs only Rs. 1655, approx. Rs. 150 less than the cheapest model of Nokia, the 1110. See the comparison Now, according to this report , Motorla developed this model exclusively for markets like India where still cheap prices rules. Motorola last November launched the Motofone in India after spending two years researching life in rural Indian villag

Reliance Retail

Reliance has kick-started its retail foray a few months back, with 40 pilot stores in Hyderabad selling fresh vegetables and fruits under the name Reliance Fresh. From today, they will move into the NCR (national capital region) covering Gurgaon and its neighboring satellites. Reliance is offering vegetables at 50% discount and is already a hit with the masses. Here's a report on Financial Times which throws up more insight into their plans and retail's future in India with biggies like Wal-Mart about to enter. What to look out for - Reliance plans to open 100 Reliance Fresh stores in Delhi by April as part of a proposed $5bn-$7bn investment in a “farm-to-fork” supply chain that will force radical change on one of India’s biggest and most inefficient sectors. India has the highest retail outlet density in the world, with an average of 5.5 stores per 1,000 people. But almost all of the 12m “mom and pop” stores that account for 98% of the $300b industry’s sales lack access to ca

Stats!

At a rate of four hundred words a minute, twenty four hours a day, a person could read nearly twenty million words in a month. Was really amazed by this stat and has devoted 1 month of my time to read as much as I can. Already finished one night @ a call center and The Google Story . Next in line, The World is Flat!

India Poised!

Was browsing through the news channels a few days ago, when I stumbled upon this piece in Times NOW where the formidable voice of Amitabh Bachan speaks about the two Indias that exist today. It's only fair that we look at the "other" India today, when our nation celebrates its Republic. May India be the next force to reckon with in the world by 2020!!

Teacher - Student!

I always like one-liner jokes, which can instantly change your mood from desperation to inspiration!! Here's a few good Teacher-Student jokes!! TEACHER : What is the chemical formula for water? PAPPU : "HIJKLMNO! "!! TEACHER : What are you talking about? PAPPU : Yesterday you said it's H to O ! TEACHER : PAPPU, go to the map and find North America. PAPPU : Here it is! TEACHER : Correct. Now, class, who discovered America? CLASS : PAPPU! TEACHER : PAPPU, how do you spell "crocodile"? PAPPU : "K-R-O-K-O-D-A-I-L" TEACHER : No, that's wrong PAPPU : Maybe it's wrong, but you asked me how I spell it! TEACHER : PAPPU, give me a sentence starting with "I". PAPPU : I is... TEACHER : No, PAPPU. Always say, "I am." PAPPU : All right... "I am the ninth letter of the alphabet." TEACHER : "Can anybody give an example of "COINCIDENCE?" PAPPU : "Sir, my Mother and Father got married on the same day, same ti

Paradoxes!

Read this and tell me if there's a solution for this problem or who is correct and who is wrong!! Few centuries ago, a Law teacher came across a student who was willing to learn but was unable to pay the fees. The student struck a deal saying, "I will pay your fee the day I win my first case in the court". Teacher agreed and proceeded with the law course. When the course was finished and teacher started pestering the student to pay up the fee, the student reminded him of the deal and pushed days. Fed up with this, the teacher decided to sue the student in the court of law and both of them decided to argue for themselves. The teacher put forward his argument saying: "If I win this case, as per the court of law, the student has to pay me as the case is about his non-payment of dues. And if I lose the case, student will still pay me because he would have won his first case. So either way I will have to get the money". Equally brilliant student argued back saying: &

Naukri and a Dot Com!

Sanjeev Bikhchandani, the CEO of Naukri.com, recently turned a billionaire thanks to his company's big-time IPO which got oversubscribed 52 times. He is a first generation entrepreneur in the "dot com" space who successfully waded through the dot com bust of the early 21st century. For all those small companies aspiring to do an IPO one day, his and his company's story is an inspiration. Here's a casual interview he gave to Gautam Ghosh, a blogger and management consultant. Interesting read indeed!

Guru!

Mani Ratnam's mouch touted movie Guru is finally releasing today. The movie is said to be inspired by the late Dhirubhai Ambani, who made Reliance what it is today - a rags to riches story. Though Mani Ratnam claims it is not about Ambani , the similarities are too coincidental!! Eagerly waiting to watch Mani Ratnam's yet another great flick. Hope it doesn't turn sour as Yuva!

Beckham leaves Real!

David Beckham has decided to leave Real Madrid once his term expires at the end of this season and move to an obscure leage called MLS ( Major League Soccer ) and play for Los Angeles Galaxy in the United States. This obscure decision to move to a never-heard of before (at least I haven't) League leaves one wonder whether he has lost it or is it because of the $250 million that he will get... Whatever the reasons maybe, one will greatly miss watching him play!

iPhone is hereeeee!!!!

In one of the most anticipated gadget announcements in recent years, Apple at Macworld on Tuesday introduced the "iPhone", a mobile device that chief executive Steve Jobs promised will reinvent the phone. The iPhone is a combo of three products - a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls, and a breakthrough Internet communications device with desktop-class email, web browsing, searching and maps-into one small and lightweight handheld device. And for just around $499 (approx. 22k), you can have one too later, if at all they introduce in India. As of now, only Cingular has got the license in the US.

Strange Laws!

Have a look, is it not true in your experience? Lorenz's Law of Mechanical Repair: After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch. Anthony's Law of the Workshop: Any tool, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner. Kovac's Conundrum: When you dial a wrong number, you never get an engaged one. Cannon's Karmic Law: If you tell the boss you were late for work because you had a flat tire, the next morning you will have a flat tire. O'brien's Variation Law: If you change queues, the one you have left will start to move faster than the one you are in now. Bell 's Theorem When the body is immersed in water , the telephone rings. Ruby's Principle of Close Encounters The probability of meeting someone you know increases when you are with someone you don't want to be seen with. Software Support!!

Dear Tech Support: Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a slow-down in the performance of the Flowers and Jewelry applications that had operated flawlessly under the Boyfriend 5.0 system. In addition, Husband 1.0 un-installed many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.9, but installed undesirable programs such as NFL 7.4, NBA 3.2 and NHL 4.1. Conversation 8.0 also no longer runs and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. I've tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail. What can I do? Signed, Desperate Reply - Dear Desperate, First, keep in mind that Boyfriend 5.0 was an entertainment package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system. Try to enter the command C:/ITHOUGHTYOULOVEDME and install Tears 6.2. Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Guilt 3.3 and Flowers 7.5. But remember, overuse can cause Husband 1.0 to default to such background applications as Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0, or

These Credit Card companies...

Not so long ago, one used to take pains in doing the rounds of all the "phoren" banks in India to get hold of a credit card... but thanks to the "boom" in the economy, the tide has turned and it's the turn of the banks now to hunt you down... One normally can associate himself with getting at least 2-3 credit card calls in a fortnight (thanks to your friend referrers)... Out of desperation, credit card companies has gone to the extent of just about issuing cards to all... and here's a classic example where a Cat (yesh, that meow meow animal only) got a credit card from a bank!!
