35k per ball!

Ishant Sharma will earn Rs. 35,185/- per ball in the "all-time" biggest mega reality show, Indian Premier League! This particular piece of info, was up in a local daily, which calculated each bowlers worth per ball (assuming they play all the matches for 3 years). Though it's not possible to technically calculate each ball's value, assuming the respective bowlers team reaches the final stage in all three years, they will play in all 45 matches! And at 4 overs per match, that's roughly 1080 balls! Other bowlers: Irfan Pathan - Rs. 34,259/- per ball! Brett Lee - Rs. 33,333/- per ball! Jacques Kallis - Rs. 33,333/- per ball! RP Singh - Rs. 32,407/- per ball! Harbajan Singh - Rs. 31,481/- per ball! Muttaiah Muralidharan - Rs. 22,222/- per ball! S Sreesanth - Rs. 23,148/- per ball! Anil Kumble - Rs. 18,518/- per ball! Shane Warne - Rs. 16,666/- per ball! Anyone out there who can do the same math for each ball you face as a batsman or for each boundary that you hit!! PS

Outsourcing - Good for US!

You thought outsourcing blue collar work to India/China is the main cause for US unemployment?? Think again!! "A full-page advertisement in the Chicago Tribune on Tuesday, by industry body FICCI and the Commerce Ministry, gives an elaborate account of how the legendary Tata Group, along with several others like Ranbaxy, Mahindra USA, Bharat Forge, ITC Kitchens of India and HCL America have created thousands of jobs in America by investing in different sectors of the US economy." "The Tata Group that operates 16 companies in the US -- from luxury hotels and beverage business to manufacturing, telecom and IT consulting -- employs over 5,000 Americans." Canara Bank going global!

Things are hotting up for one of the country’s largest banks, Canara Bank. It is reportedly eyeing an Indonesian bank to expand its international footprint. Although it has a total business volume of Rs 2.4 lakh crore, close to 95% of this is generated in India. It has branch presence in London and Hong Kong besides a representative office at Shanghai and an exchange company in the Gulf. It expects the nod for converting the representative office at Shanghai into a full fledged branch shortly. Residents protest transfer of SI

In a scene reminiscent of a film, a group of residents today laid a near seige to the Police Commissioner's office, in protest against the transfer of a Sub Inspector of a police station in the city. According to police sources, the SI, attached to Saravanampatti police station, was transferred and posted in the special team of CB-CID. Protesting against the transfer, nearly 80 residents of Anjugam Nagar, led by a local councillor, assembled near the district collectorate to lay seige. Since, there was no officials there, they marched towards the nearby Police Commissioner's office and laid near seige. A senior police official managed to convince the residents to disperse after accepting a memorandum from them, seeking withdrawal of the transfer, the sources said - Agencies PS: Anyone knows who this SI is? Is it our Bullet guy?

Happy V-Day!

Ishant Sharma - a prodigy in the making!

Am no cricket expert nor I profess myself as a cricketing brain, I just love to watch a game where India is winning and prefer to do other things if I sense a defeat. Though the recent Twenty20 spurt has attracted me back to the game, I still look upon Test matches just for the records being created by individuals! And after a long while I decided to sit through a one-day match fully, the Super Sunday match against Australia. And what I saw in 19-year old Ishant Sharma stunned me. As rightly pointed out by Harsha Bogle in the post-match discussions, it is good to finally see a " genuine " Indian fast bowler who can match up to the Windies, Pakis & OZs. Good job Ishant, keep it coming!! PS: Am still rubbing my eyes in disbelief - Australia getting bowled out for 159 inside 44 overs!! Unbelievable is the word!

A Paradigm Shift?

According to a news report in Business Standard, there is a tectonic shift happening in the BPO/ITeS industry as more & more companies are moving into non voice processes. "A job with a BPO has been looked upon as a stepping stone to another, longer-lasting career. Such has been the attrition in the industry. According to estimates, about a lakh people join the Indian outsourcing industry every year, of which 15-20% leave in the first year itself." The industry is veering from predominantly voice-based services to more and more non-voice services, and is being increasingly looked upon as a long-term career. Read more
