Muscles Mani!!

Dr. James Levine walks on a treadmill while using his computer. Levine does this five days a week up to eight hours a day, which is equivalent to about eight miles of walking. He is among a group of Mayo Clinic researchers who believe that everyday pacing, fidgeting and restlessness may play a bigger role in whether someone is fat or thin rather than trips to a gym.

Globalization!

Question : What is the truest definition of Globalization? Answer : Princess Diana's death. Question : How come? Answer : An English princess with an Egyptian boyfriend crashes in a French tunnel, driving a German car with a Dutch engine, driven by a Belgian who was drunk on Scottish whisky, followed closely by Italian Paparazzi, on Japanese motorcycles; treated by an American doctor, using Brazilian medicines. This is sent to you by an American, using Bill Gates's technology, and you're probably reading this on your computer, that use Taiwanese chips, and a Korean monitor, assembled by Bangladeshi workers in a Singapore plant, transported by Indian lorry-drivers, hijacked by Indonesians, unloaded by Sicilian longshoremen, and trucked to you by Mexican illegals.

Energizer!

Bangalore seems to be slowly turning into a hub of alternative vehicle technology. After the Reva electric car comes the Cosmic electric scooter, devised by the city-based Eko-Cosmic. The battery-operated two-wheeler, Eko claims, can run 50 kms on a single charge, the cost of which is a mere Rs 3. Priced at Rs 25,000, the scooterette runs on a gel battery that requires no maintenance (but needs replacement every four years). The vehicle comes with a charger that plugs into domestic points and does the job in four hours. Armed with tax breaks from the local government, Eko plans to make Cosmic a popular city vehicle. Also in the pipeline: a Maruti Omni-like electric car for Rs 1.5 lakh and an electric three-wheeler.

9/11 Innocence

The US can be pretty sure that no Indian was part of the conspiracy behind 09/11 attack. Here's why: 1. We are always late, we would have missed all 4 flights. 2. Pretty girls on the plane would distract us. 3. We would talk loudly and bring attention to ourselves. 4. With food and drinks on the plane, we would forget why we're there. 5. We talk with our hands, therefore we would have to put our weapons down. 6. We would ALL want to fly the plane. 7. We would argue and start a fight in the plane. 8. We can't keep a secret, we would have told everyone a week before doing it. AND 9. We would have put our country's flag on the windshield. and last but not least.. 10. We would have all lined up to get our photograph taken

The folks at Google just keep churning out new applications. Yesterday it was Google Video , which allows users to search the Internet for content of a number of television shows by using the show's closed-captioning information. "What Google did for the Web, Google Video aims to do for television." - Says Larry Paige. To say that this service is in beta mode might be an understatement -- even for the company with the understated, plain-white-background home page. For the moment, the number of TV providers the company currently indexes is limited -- PBS, the NBA, Fox News, and C-SPAN. Among the highlights the company listed: program previews using still images, information about upcoming airings, and keyword searches within specific programs. This all has the potential to be of great interest to paying broadcasters who are looking for new ways to raise awareness of their programming. With one move, Google has sent a warning shot across the bow of Gemstar-TV Gu

Republic Day Special - A New Passage to India!!

In the past, western publications described fast-growing Asian economies as the "Asian tigers," and India as the "caged tiger." What they were referring to was the fact that steel-hard barriers of regulations and controls fettered Indian businesses and the economy and prevented them from achieving their full potential. These days, though, following years of deregulation and economic liberalization, India increasingly is viewed as a fast-growing economy that is being transformed by globalization, much like China, into a powerhouse. In other words, the Indian tiger has finally escaped its cage and is on the prowl for new opportunities. In this special section on India, lets focus on three key sectors. 1. India is now one of the world's largest producers of generic drugs and vaccines. Companies like Ranbaxy and Dr. Reddy's Laboratories are becoming well known around the world. But interest is growing in the health care industry's domestic agenda.

Devil or Godman??

For those of us who have been following the Sankararaman murder case very closely since last November, the filing of chargesheet by the police against Kanchi Acharya came as no surprise. Now it is left to the Judiciary to say whether Acharya is guilty or not, although a section of people demand a CBI probe. Let's wait and watch as the law takes its own course. Here's a link where you can read the whole chargesheet filed by the police. An interesting read!

Whose house??

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leave the house-building business to live a more leisurely life with his wife and enjoy his extended family. He would miss the paycheck each week, but he wanted to retire. They could get by. The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go & asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but over time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end a dedicated career. When the carpenter finished his work, his employer came to inspect the house. Then he handed the front-door key to the carpenter and said, "This is your house... my gift to you." The carpenter was shocked! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently. So it is with us. We build our lives, a day a

Never Say Die!!

In 1883, a creative engineer named John Roebling was inspired by an idea to build a spectacular bridge connecting New York with the Long Island. However bridge building experts throughout the world thought that this was an impossible feat and told Roebling to forget the idea. It just could not be done. It was not practical. It had never been done before. Roebling could not ignore the vision he had in his mind of this bridge. He thought about it all the time and he knew deep in his heart that it could be done. He just had to share the dream with someone else. After much discussion and persuasion he managed to convince his son Washington, an up and coming engineer, that the bridge in fact could be built. Working together for the first time, the father and son developed concepts of how it could be accomplished and how the obstacles could be overcome. With great excitement and inspiration, and the headiness of a wild challenge before them, they hired their crew and began to build t

Yahoo Baby!

A Romanian tabloid said on Monday it had fired a reporter for making up a story about a couple who named their son Yahoo as a sign of gratitude for meeting over the Internet. Bucharest daily Libertatea published a story this month saying two Romanians had named their baby for the popular Web site and printed a picture of his birth certificate. The news was published internationally, including by Reuters. "It was the reporter's child's birth certificate, which he modified," said Simona Ionescu, Libertatea's deputy editor-in-chief. "We fired him." She said Ion Garnod, who had worked for the paper for several years, had admitted inventing the story to look good. Courtesy: MSK

According to the story, after every Quantas Airlines flight the pilots complete a 'gripe sheet' report, which conveys to the ground crew engineers any mechanical problems on the aircraft during the flight. The engineer reads the form, corrects the problem, then writes details of action taken on the lower section of the form for the pilot to review before the next flight. It is clear from the examples below that ground crew engineers have a keen sense of humor - these are supposedly real extracts from gripe forms completed by pilots with the solution responses by the engineers. Incidentally, Quantas has the best safety record of all the world's major airlines. (1 = Problem logged by pilot.) (2 = The solution and action taken by the mechanics.) 1. Be Patient!!

This is a true story, which happened in the States. A man came out of his home to admire his new truck. To his puzzlement, his three-year-old son was happily hammering dents into the shiny paint of the truck. The man ran to his son, knocked him away, and hammered the little boy's hands into pulp as punishment. When the father calmed down, he rushed his son to the hospital. Although the doctor tried desperately to save the crushed bones, he finally had to amputate the fingers from both the boy's hands. When the boy woke up from the surgery & saw his bandaged stubs, he innocently said, " Daddy, I'm sorry about your truck." Then he asked, "but when are my fingers going to grow back?" The father went home & committed suicide. T hink about this story the next time someone steps on your feet or u wish to take revenge. Think first before u lose your patience with someone u love. A brave new India!!

They say that "everything happens for one's own good" and here's an article that portrays how India, in an hour of national disaster, pulled up its socks and showed the world that it's not a country of snake charmers of beggars anymore. India was bold enough to say no to any International aid, especially from the US, and said that it can take care of itself. Not only did India denied international support, but it also helped other countries in this process like Sri Lanka and Maldives.

A BIG Thanks for my e-mail memories of 2004 Thanks to all my friends who sent me such important emails in 2004! It's so wonderful that you included me in your quest to inform! Because of all of you I stopped drinking Coca-Cola after I found out from you that it's good for removing toilet stains. I stopped going to the movies for fear of sitting on a needle infected with a disease. I smell awful, but thank goodness I stopped using deodorant because you said it causes cancer. I don't leave my car in any parking lot even though I sometimes have to walk about seven blocks, because you said that someone might drug me with a perfume sample and then try to rob me. I also stopped answering the phone because you said that they will ask me to dial a stupid number and then I get a high phone bill with calls to Uganda, Singapore, Tokyo and maybe the Mars Rover. I stopped eating chicken and hamburgers because you told me they are nothing more than horrible m

Doing the right thing!!

The Indian government, in a move to entice more foreign direct investment, effectively scrapped a rule requiring foreign companies to seek permission from local joint-venture partners before setting up a separate enterprise in the same sector. The regulation, known as Press Note 18, has been a symbol of India's often ambivalent attitude toward foreign investment in its economy. In a statement yesterday, Minister of Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath said the rule won't be applied to joint ventures that are formed from now on by foreign and Indian companies. PS: An excellent step Mr. Prime Minister!! You've proved again that you are far too clever not to realize the need for reforms going forward. ABCs of Cooking!!

Yesterday morning when I reached home after work, as usual I found my mom working in the kitchen, preparing something tasty for me. She's been complaining lately that am too much busy with work and not helping her at all. So, as a good PR gesture, I decided to help her with cooking. It's been a long cherished dream of mine to try my hand at cooking!! So I straight went to kitchen after browsing through the morning paper and coaxed mom saying that I too want to help her in cooking. She was preparing sambhar and I asked how can I help her. She asked me to get some curry leaves from the plant in our backyard. I ran and came back in a jiffy with the curry leaves. Then she asked me to clean the leaves. After that was over, she asked me to put those leaves into the sambhar which was boiling. I, with great panache and expertise, did that job beautifully and my mom patted on my back (with a grin on her face) and said that you will be a good cook one day. PS: She was stil

Essence of Leadership!

A leader is an agent of change, and progress is about change. In the words of Robert F Kennedy, 'Progress is a nice word; but change is its motivator.' Leadership is about raising the aspirations of followers and enthusing people with a desire to reach for the stars. For instance, Mahatma Gandhi created a vision for independence in India and raised the aspirations of our people. Leadership is about making people say, 'I will walk on water for you.' It is about creating a worthy dream and helping people achieve it. Robert Kennedy, summed up leadership best when he said, 'Others see things as they are and wonder why; I see them as they are not and say why not?' Adversity A leader has to raise the confidence of followers. He should make them understand that tough times are part of life and that they will come out better at the end of it. He has to sustain their hope, and their energy levels to handle the difficult days. Never is strong lead

Problem Solving!!

According to a news report, a certain private school in Ooty recently was faced with a unique problem. A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints. Every night the maintenance man would remove them and the next day the girls would put them back. Finally the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night. To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required. He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it. Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirr

Kasparov & Business Strategy!

According to Kasparov "What separates a winner from a loser at the grand-master level is the willingness to do the unthinkable. A brilliant strategy is, certainly, a matter of intelligence, but intelligence without audaciousness is not enough. Given the opportunity, I must have the guts to explode the game, to upend my opponent's thinking and, in so doing, unnerve him. So it is in business: One does not succeed by sticking to convention. When your opponent can easily anticipate every move you make, your strategy deteriorates and becomes commoditized. So, yes, a sort of courage is paramount. But that courage must be tempered by other less-glamorous qualities. Read more on what Kasparov has to say on Business Strategy here .

How Taxes Work!

This is a VERY simple way to understand the tax laws. Read on -- it does make you think!! Let's put tax cuts in terms everyone can understand. Suppose that every day, ten men go out for dinner. The bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this: The first four men — the poorest — would pay nothing; the fifth would pay $1, the sixth would pay $3, the seventh $7, the eighth $12, the ninth $18, and the tenth man — the richest — would pay $59. That's what they decided to do. The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement — until one day, the owner threw them a curve (in tax language a tax cut). "Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20." So now dinner for the ten only cost $80.00. The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes. So the first fou
