Customer Speak!

What all they did is, enter one password and they got access on a permission basis to nine different dealer sites. And that's the way we like to have it. I think Google is fabulous at that, you've got a little tiny box and it's amazing you type anything in there and you get a lot back. Sometimes it's right on point, sometimes it's a little bit more than you want, but it's a very simple interface Via: Hari V PS: More on Google Vs. Microsoft to follow....Aarthi, please take note :-)

DEDICATED TO ALL HUSBANDS

Working for a property company that trades is like having a second wife, because if I tell my wife there is a fiver, she'll spend the fiver, and if I tell her there is a tenner, she'll spend the tenner. Via: Hari V

Taj Hotel @ Coimbatore!

Taj Hotels & Resorts has finally decided to open shop in Coimbatore. It has signed an agreement with Hotel Surya International in Race Course for a definitive contract whereby the current hotel will be dislodged to build a brand new 5 star hotel. Why Taj decieded to build a hotel in Coimbatore? Apparently the strides Coimbatore is making in IT & BPO arena and the recent revival of its manufacturing base, especially Tirupur.

Is Haryana government crazy??

Here’s a case of killing a $5.2-billion golden goose with a stick made in 1958. Haryana government has sent notices to Gurgaon-based call centres asking them not to allow women employees on night shifts. As women comprise an estimated 40% of the workforce. Gurgaon call centres may have tough days ahead if the labour department has its way. Grappling with an old law, which is being used to “harass” call centres, the affected BPOs are asking why this outdated law is being invoked now and are wondering if this is plain harassment under the garb of bureaucratic compliance. The labour department babus get their clout from Section 9 of the 1958 Act, under which government has been empowered to fix opening and closing hours of ‘‘all classes of establishments’’ and which states that ‘‘different opening and closing hours may be fixed for different classes of establishments and for different area.’’ It was the same labour department which, through its notification issued in June 200

Happy B'day Google!

We all have heard of the Google story - starting from the dorm room of Larry & Page and how it grew to compete the evil Microsoft - so am cutting all that here and wishing Google a very very Happy B'day indeed. It's really beyond words of how Google has helped me in both my personal and professional life... In 70's Rock music was considered cool, but in this new century Google is cool... Here's what Google has to say on its B'day: Google opened its doors in September 1998 , and we’ve been pursuing one mission ever since: to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. For our seventh birthday, we are giving you a newly expanded web search index that is 1,000 times the size of our original index. I’m proud of everything we’ve accomplished in the years since Larry Page and Sergey Brin set up the first Google data center in Larry’s dorm room at Stanford. Today, along with web search based on Larry and Sergey’s original BackRub sea

Finance Reporters for Yahoo!

Yahoo Inc. has hired a roster of popular authors to write financial columns for its Web site, marking one of the company's biggest moves into original content. The Internet company today will begin publishing columns about personal finance and investing by an array of writers, including such well-known names in the business press as Ben Stein, Robert Kiyosaki and Stephen Covey. The Sunnyvale, Calif., company has signed nine new columnists to write for its Yahoo Finance site and plans to hire as many as 30. For the venture, Yahoo tapped authors of business books, rather than plucking business columnists from newspapers and wire services, which might have caused friction with some of its news partners, which include the Associated Press, Reuters, the Los Angeles Times, USA Today and The Wall Street Journal. Mr. Kiyosaki, author of the best-selling book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" and a series of sequels, will write a column on "Why the Rich Get Richer." In an in

How does a typical husband respond when his wife comes down with a cold?

In the first year of marriage: "Sugar Dumpling, I'm really worried about my baby girl. You've got a bad sniffle, and there's no telling about these things with all the terrible viruses that are going around these days. I'm taking you to the hospital, dear, where I've reserved a private room for you. I know the food's lousy, so I'll be bringing your meals in from Residency. I've already made all the arrangements with the floor superintendent." Second year of marriage: "Listen, Darling, I don't like the sound of that cough and I've called the doctor to rush right over. Now you go to bed like a good girl, and I'll take care of everything." Third year: "Maybe you'd better lie down, Honey. Nothing like a little rest when you're feeling lousy. I'll bring you something. Do we have any canned soup?" Fourth year: "Now look, Dear, be sensible. After you feed the kids, do the dishes, and mop the fl

Yoga!

A young woman who was worried about her habit of biting her fingernails down to the quick was advised by a friend to take up yoga to ease her nervousness. She did, and soon her fingernails were growing normally. One day her friend stopped her and noticing her long, groomed nails -- asked her if yoga had totally cured her nervousness. "No," she replied, "but now I can reach my toe-nails so I bite them instead."

Friends 'marry' dead girl to boyfriend!

In a poignant gesture, a group of girls got their dead friend "married" to her boyfriend to fulfill her dying wish before going against tradition to perform the cremation themselves. When 25-year-old orphan Madhu Verma died on Wednesday in hospital and her body was brought to the Subhash Nagar cremation ground in this central Indian city her friends decided to fulfill her last wish - to marry boyfriend Bunty. They called Bunty to the crematorium and performed a brief marriage ceremony after which they cremated her - a task not traditionally performed by women in traditional Hindu society. Madhu, who earned a living by working in a beauty parlour and as a clerk in the hostel where she stayed, died of tuberculosis Wednesday at the Kasturba Hospital where she had been admitted. She had come to Bhopal five years ago from Ujjain where she was born and had spent the first 20 years of her life at Nari Niketan, a shelter for destitute women. She was staying at a hostel

Scary Church!

There is a small town called Sedlec, some 70 kilometers east of the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague. This town Sedlec has an unusual, weird scary church. The inside of this church is dembellished with real human bones. In year 1218 AD, when a certain Abbot Henry made a pilgrimage to the holy land and brought back a jar full of soil from cemetery, which he spread over the Church. As a result the church came to be regarded as more sacred and turned into a popular burial spot. By 1318, more than thirty thousands bodies were buried there and by 1511, it became necessary to dig out the graves of their forefathers and remove the older bones to make place for the new ones. The dugout human bones then became the construction materials for the macabre creations. In 1870 a local woodcarver was hired by the Duke of Shwartzenberg to decorate the inside of the church with the human remains of their forefathers. They were some forty thousand pieces of dead human bones. It is now the Church of

This has been in my To Do List for a long long time, but because of my busy life was never able to fulfill it till now. I am talking about books, of course! Na na, am not the kind of bookworms that you see in this society, but I do love reading. I gifted myself four precious books recently that I've been dying to read. 1. Jack Welch - Straight from the gut The Autobiography of the legendary ex-CEO of GE. 2. Jack Welch - Winning. The second book co-written by him and Suzy Welch. 3. Blink 4. The monk who sold his ferrari. 5. How to get rich - Donald Trump. Remember Apprentice? Will try writing a review on these in the near-future, depending on when I finish reading them. I would highly recommend these books if you are having any plans to buy some.

Wise sayings...

The supreme accomplishment is to blur the line between work and play. When there's a single thief, it's robbery. When there are a thousand thieves, it's taxation. I destroy my enemies when I make them my friends. Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do. Find a job you like and you add five days to every week. There's no point in burying a hatchet if you're going to put up a marker on the site. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice. Did u knw?

A crocodile can't stick its tongue out. A shrimp's heart is in its head. In a study of 200,000 ostriches, over a period of 80 years, no one reported a single case where an ostrich buried its head in the sand. It is physically impossible for pigs to look up into the sky. A pregnant goldfish is called a twit. More than 50% of the people in the world have never made or received a telephone call. Horses can't vomit. The "sixth sick sheik's sixth sheep's sick" is said to be the toughest tongue twister in the English language. If you sneeze too hard, you can fracture a rib. If you try to suppress a sneeze, you can rupture a blood vessel in your head or neck and die. And, if you keep your eyes open by force, they can pop out. Salaam Namaste - Review

Ambar Malhotra (Preity Zinta) left Bangalore and nagging parents to come and study medicine in Melbourne, Australia. She wanted to escape marriage and the idea of handling awkward proposals. Now, she works part-time as a radio jockey at a station called 'Salaam Namaste', where she interviews Indians living in Australia. Nikhil Arora (Saif Ali Khan) is an architect-turned-head chef who works at a restaurant called Nick of Time, in Melbourne. We are told he always loved cooking, preferring it to playing with friends outside. Now, he does what he loves doing, and the fact that he's also paid for it doesn't hurt him in the least. Ambar is sensible and punctual, which is everything Nick is not. She works hard, is serious about everything she does, and loves her radio show. He loves cooking, partying with friends and living a life free of commitments. When invited to a radio interview with Ambar, he oversleeps, misses the show, and manages to annoy her. She uses her show

Of nukes and aeroplanes...

India and France will negotiate a pact to cooperate on nuclear power, officials said Monday after talks between Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and French President Jacques Chirac. During the meeting, which focused on strengthening the countries' strategic partnership, Singh also confirmed plans to buy six French submarines and 43 Airbus planes. Chirac called India "a major partner"; and said the submarine and plane orders, which had previously been announced by Indian officials, were a sign "of trust, friendship and cooperation."

Tamil Nadu yesterday (Sept 8, 2005) unveiled its IT Enabled Services (ITES) policy for 2005, giving a slew of incentives such as capital subsidy on investments in new units and cent percent relaxation of floor space index on IT parks besides encouraging companies to employ women workers. The policy, announced by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, also promised to bring a new legislation for combating crimes and violations to protect the ITES companies and their customers on safety of their data. "The launch of the ITES policy by me today takes the state's initiative towards IT and ITES sector to a qualitatively higher plane," she said while inaugurating the two-day IT and ITES meet, "Connect-05", organised jointly by the CII and the state government, here. Salaam Namaste - Releasing today

Saif Ali Khan as Nick Nikhil Arora... sorry, "Nick", hates being called Nikhil Arora. He also hates waking up in the morning, the sight of blood and architecture – his chosen line of study. Which is why he moved from Ludhiana to Melbourne, gave up trying to ruin the skyline and became a chef, a profession that allows him to sleep in as late as he likes. It also lets him lead exactly the kind of commitment-free, laid-back lifestyle that he has always wanted. His parents, of course, know nothing about Nikhil’s transformation into Nick, the cool head chef of "Nick of Time", a famous Indian restaurant in Melbourne. What Nick does not know is that his happy-go-lucky life is about to be invaded by that most elusive of all emotions – love. Nick’s sleeping habit leads him to get on the wrong side of an RJ whose show he doesn’t turn up for. Enter Ambar Malhotra (Preity Zinta), the peppy & vivacious host of a show at the “Salaam Namaste” radio station. But chemistry being

Sony's answer to Apple

Closely following on the heels of Apple's new iPod nano launch, Sony Corp has launched an advanced version of its Walkman portable music player. Sony, which created the portable music market 26 years ago with its now-legendary cassette-playing Walkmans, has lost out to Apple in the portable digital era as it focused on its mainstay CD and Mini Disc players. The 6 GB model is Sony's first hard-disk player with a small capacity. Apple's iPod nano comes in 2 GB and 4 GB capacities. Sony's new models will add the ability to automatically select and play the songs a user listens to most, and also to pick songs released in a certain year -- a function Sony calls the "time machine shuffle." PS: Apple has sold about 22 million iPods worldwide since their introduction in October 2001, making it by far the most widely used player in a market that research firm In-Stat expects to nearly quadruple to 104 million units a year by 2009.

Smoking to blindness...

Smokers are more prone to losing eyesight later in life than non-smokers, says a study. There are around 500,000 people in the UK with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Of these, an estimated 54,000 people have the condition as a result of smoking. AMD usually develops after a person reaches 50 years and affects the central part of the retina of the eye. A report by AMD Alliance UK, based on a survey of 1,023 British adults, reveals that only seven percent of people know that AMD affects the eyes, reports the online edition of Daily Mail. Steve Winyard, head of campaigns at the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB) and chairman of AMD Alliance UK, said: "Smoking is the only proven cause of AMD that people can do anything about, yet people are not aware of the link and most people have not even heard of the condition. "The message is simple - do not take up smoking, and if you do, stop." The RNIB is calling on the government to introduce warnings on cigarett

Petrol to cost Rs. 3 more!

The government has allowed state-owned oil companies to raise the price of petrol by Rs 3 a litre and diesel by Rs 2 a litre from midnight today. Prices of cooking gas and kerosene have been left unchanged. Based on the fortnightly average of the Indian basket, as on August 31, oil marketing companies are incurring a loss of Rs 7.50 a litre on petrol, Rs 5.50 on diesel and Rs 12 on kerosene, while a cylinder of LPG is being sold Rs 96 below the import-parity price. Silver Lining: With the government finalising a burden-sharing mechanism, OMCs may not be allowed to raise prices during the remainder of the financial year, if the prevailing international prices did not rise significantly.

Proved! The equation of earnings

Engineers and scientists will never make as much money as business executives. Now a rigorous mathematical proof has been developed that explains why this is true: Postulate 1: Knowledge is Power. Postulate 2: Time is Money. As every engineer knows, Work = Power x Time Since Knowledge = Power , and Time = Money , we have: Work = Knowledge x Money Solving for Money, we get: Work Money = --------------------- Knowledge Thus, as Knowledge decreases, Money increases, regardless of how much Work is done. Conclusion: The Less you Know, the More you Make. Note: It has been speculated that the reason why Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard's math program was because he stumbled upon this proof as an undergraduate, and dedicated the rest of his career to the pursuit of ignorance.
