I read a recent report that the Indian Government has asked sports persons not to display Indian national flag or its variations on any of the accessories they use. Prominent users of these include Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Narain Karthikeyan (whose F1 stint will start on March 6) and Kiran Chandhok.
With all due respect to the Indian tricolour, I believe this is Government's high-handedness as displaying something like the national flag should be any citizen's primary right. Am not sure what the Government means by saying "it's a disrespect to our national flag".
Take the case of Narain Karthikeyan, who sports our national flag in his helmet. It's a matter of great pride that an Indian has made it to Formula 1 racing and the world will be watching him this coming March 6. What's wrong in letting the world know that he is a proud son of India.
I believe there's no such law prevailing in the US or UK. I have seen US flags being displayed in front of grocery shops, restaurants, etc. in movies/TV and US flag related merchandise is sold officially!!
Mr. President, are you listening??
