Techie Politicians!

Most of you who read blogs and newspapers online will now be familar with a smiling Advani asking you to read his blog and proclaiming himself to be India's new Obama -"Advani for PM" google ads are everywhere! And yeah, the ads have started to become annoying too...

At first I was amazed that an 81-year-old man is ready to connect with the young & restless, and I saw myself going through his blog every now and then. I also was quite impressed with their IT Vision document, detailing their plans for an IT Bharat! In fact, an ex-IIM guy is managing the whole online campaign - Prodyut Bora!

Looks like MSM (mainstream media) has picked on this new trend, and Reuters has come up with an article detailing the wired-politicians who are trying to catch the net savvy juntas votes in the upcoming elections!

Both Congress and the BJP's prime ministerial candidates are elderly, but that has not stopped the parties from reaching out to the youth, using text messages, campaign tunes and videos.

L.K. Advani, the iPhone-carrying, 81-year-old leader of Hindu nationalist BJP, has posted his own blog (http://blog.lkadvani.in).

"In my own political life spanning six decades, I have enthusiastically embraced every new communication technology -- from the early simple Casio digital diary to iPod and iPhone," he wrote in a blog that drew more than 100 comments.

BJP teams have made YouTube campaign videos and their election offices in New Delhi are packed with youngsters glued to computer screens to update campaign websites.

Ariyaatha pillakku choriyumbol ariyum!

As a kid/teenager, my only source of information to learn malayalam was Manorama Publications' Balaram, a children's fortnightly and my granny. I still vividly remember how she used to teach me the basics of malayalam whenever I come to Kerala on vacations. My granny was also a great source of amazement for me as she used malaylam proverbs or the so called "pazham chollu" every now and then. These proverbs, though small in length and use, had deep insights! Though I can read/write Malayalam today, thx to Balarama and my granny, I used to miss her proverbs a lot. But not anymore!!
