Plaza Suite!

The Madras Players were here in town this past weekend to perform at PSG IMS Auditorium. The program was organized by Roundtable 101 in connection with a fund raising for charity.

The Madras Players enacted two comical plays, based on Neil Simon's Plaza Suite, directed by Mithran Devanesan.

The two plays enacted had the audience enthralled with the wits, and most were seen laughing out loud, shedding all inhibitions (including me). The plays were so close to real life marriage woes, that it had me and my wife looking at each other in agreement while laughing our heads off!

PC Ramakrishna, the voice of Chennai, and a noted theater and film personality formed the crux of the plays. I've never seen any other actor with such a commanding voice and brilliant acting capabilities.

Synopsis:

Plaza Suite from Neil Simon, is a trilogy of short plays, all of which are located in Suite 719 of the PLAZA HOTEL, New York. The Madras Players had selected two of these for presentation.

The first piece, VISITOR FROM MAMARONECK, brings Karen (Indrani Krishnaier) and Sam Nash (PC Ramakrishna) together in suite 719. Karen has arranged for a surprise celebration of their wedding anniversary, having spent their honeymoon night in this very suite. A series of mishaps ensues and things don't go as per Karen's plans. Sharply witty and funny, there is also something to make you think.

VISITOR FROM FOREST HILLS, the second piece, finds Norma and Roy Hubley in Suite 719. Their daughter, Mimsey is to get married in The Green Hall of The Plaza Hotel, but has locked herself in the bathroom, having developed last minute jitters. Coaxing her out of the bathroom to get her married forms the hilarious action of the play.

PS: Thx to someVone for giving us the tickets!!

Ariyaatha pillakku choriyumbol ariyum!

As a kid/teenager, my only source of information to learn malayalam was Manorama Publications' Balaram, a children's fortnightly and my granny. I still vividly remember how she used to teach me the basics of malayalam whenever I come to Kerala on vacations. My granny was also a great source of amazement for me as she used malaylam proverbs or the so called "pazham chollu" every now and then. These proverbs, though small in length and use, had deep insights! Though I can read/write Malayalam today, thx to Balarama and my granny, I used to miss her proverbs a lot. But not anymore!!
