Hartal, the bandh renamed following judicial pronouncement against it, along with unrbidled holidays wreak havoc with academic and economic life of Kerala.
The state schools had, in this academic year, worked only 90 days while the half yearly examinations are at the door. In this month (November) alone, two hartals had claimed their toll and two more are scheduled in the remaining fortnight. With six public holidays (all of them religious holidays) including second Saturday, and four Sundays the non-working days have totalled 16 days.
The hartal on Monday was courtesy the Viswa Hindu Parishad protesting the arrest of the Kanchi seer. And all hartals in Kerala, called even by notional parties, meet with "complete success".
