Airbus won an order Tuesday for 30 aircraft from India's budget carrier Air Deccan in a deal valued up to $1.8 billion, the third agreement struck in Asia in a week by the European aircraft maker.
Delivery of the 180-seat A320 aircraft will begin in September 2005. The order is part of plans by Air Deccan, which started operations in August 2003 as India's first budget airline, to increase its fleet to 60 aircraft in five years.
And Kingfisher Airlines, another Indian low-cost operator, placed an order Saturday for 10 Airbus planes, with the option to buy a further 20. In all, that deal also could be valued at up to $1.8 billion.
PS: Kingfisher Airlines, as the name suggests is promoted by none other than Vijya Mallya of the UB Group!!
