Tamil Nadu yesterday (Sept 8, 2005) unveiled its IT Enabled Services (ITES) policy for 2005, giving a slew of incentives such as capital subsidy on investments in new units and cent percent relaxation of floor space index on IT parks besides encouraging companies to employ women workers.
The policy, announced by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, also promised to bring a new legislation for combating crimes and violations to protect the ITES companies and their customers on safety of their data.
"The launch of the ITES policy by me today takes the state's initiative towards IT and ITES sector to a qualitatively higher plane," she said while inaugurating the two-day IT and ITES meet, "Connect-05", organised jointly by the CII and the state government, here.
She said a subsidy of Rs 25 lakh would be given for Rs 50 crore to Rs 100 crore investments on new units in the sector. The policy, which would be valid for three years, said new industrial units (small, medium or large) where more than 40 per cent of the total workers employed are women would be eligible for an additional capital subsidy of five per cent of investment in fixed assets, subject to a Rs 10 lakh ceiling.
It also stated the birth anniversary of mathematics genius Srinivasan Ramanujam falling on Dec. 22 would be celebrated as the Information Technology Day of the state from this year.
In order to promote the highest quality standards of operation in the ITES sector, the government would encourage companies in the sector to obtain international process quality certifications like COPC, ISO etc by providing a cash reimbursement incentive of Rs five lakh or the actual amount spent, which ever is less, to them.
