ABCs of Cooking!!

Yesterday morning when I reached home after work, as usual I found my mom working in the kitchen, preparing something tasty for me. She's been complaining lately that am too much busy with work and not helping her at all. So, as a good PR gesture, I decided to help her with cooking.

It's been a long cherished dream of mine to try my hand at cooking!! So I straight went to kitchen after browsing through the morning paper and coaxed mom saying that I too want to help her in cooking.

She was preparing sambhar and I asked how can I help her. She asked me to get some curry leaves from the plant in our backyard. I ran and came back in a jiffy with the curry leaves. Then she asked me to clean the leaves. After that was over, she asked me to put those leaves into the sambhar which was boiling.

I, with great panache and expertise, did that job beautifully and my mom patted on my back (with a grin on her face) and said that you will be a good cook one day.

PS: She was still grinning as I walked back to the drawing room!!

  1. Hey, that's a very good idea. Instead of just sprinkling water in vegetables, which doesn't ensure whether the dirt is really removed or not, why not wash it with a soap.

Maybe we can come up with some washing powder especially made for cleaning vegetables!!! How about VegARIEL or SurfVeggie!!

Ariyaatha pillakku choriyumbol ariyum!

As a kid/teenager, my only source of information to learn malayalam was Manorama Publications' Balaram, a children's fortnightly and my granny. I still vividly remember how she used to teach me the basics of malayalam whenever I come to Kerala on vacations. My granny was also a great source of amazement for me as she used malaylam proverbs or the so called "pazham chollu" every now and then. These proverbs, though small in length and use, had deep insights! Though I can read/write Malayalam today, thx to Balarama and my granny, I used to miss her proverbs a lot. But not anymore!! Thanks to this Wikipedia link , forwarded to me by Vinay
