We all have heard of the Google story - starting from the dorm room of Larry & Page and how it grew to compete the evil Microsoft - so am cutting all that here and wishing Google a very very Happy B'day indeed.
It's really beyond words of how Google has helped me in both my personal and professional life... In 70's Rock music was considered cool, but in this new century Google is cool...
Here's what Google has to say on its B'day:
Google opened its doors in September 1998, and we’ve been pursuing one mission ever since: to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. For our seventh birthday, we are giving you a newly expanded web search index that is 1,000 times the size of our original index.
I’m proud of everything we’ve accomplished in the years since Larry Page and Sergey Brin set up the first Google data center in Larry’s dorm room at Stanford. Today, along with web search based on Larry and Sergey’s original BackRub search engine, we offer specialized search for everything from satellite images to academic papers, local business info to your own computer. We’ve also built software for email and mobile services, photo management and computer-to-computer voice calling, to name just a few things.
But search remains our heart and soul, so I’m especially pleased by this latest expansion of our index, which makes Google more than 3 times larger than any other search engine. See for yourself how effective the new Google search index can be. Come up with a search query that's special to you (your name, your elementary school, and your favorite animal, for example) - a combination of words that is likely to exist on just a few web pages out of the billions we've indexed, a few needles scattered in the Internet’s endless haystack. Ready? Let's Go
Happy birthday to u

Hey Aarthi a.k.a Microsoft Champ! I know u didn't like my comments againt Microsoft... But as we have discussed before, let's fight it out, me for Google and you for Microsoft....
ReplyDeleteFirst I thought of listing out the evils done by Microsoft as a reply, but this page won't be enough for me to write them down. Just as a curtain raiser to our big show down, here's a few pointers... remember Netscape?
Oh-oh. Netscape was scraped. It's only a matter of survival of the fittest. All I'm trying to say is Google is as as evil as Microsoft, if not more. They seek profit, just like any company should. As for the Passport problem, I remember you explicitly telling me that MSN Spaces wanted you to sign in with a hotmail account. Well, now orkut wants a GMail account. Go Evil Google!
ReplyDeleteShow down? I'm sorry, looks like you haven't looked up on Mark Jen. I win, hands down :)
Hey Aarthi
ReplyDeleteIf there was no google, there won't be research work in the FRM section.
