SMS - TV Connection!!

It's raining reality shows in all the TV channels these days... From Sony's just concluded Fame Gurukul, Zee's Sa Re Ga Ma Challenge, Star One's Nach Baliye, Star Plus' KBC, Vijay TV's Tamil version of KBC, Vijay's soon to be introduced comedy challenge featuring Chinni Jayanth, a take off from the hit Star One series which featured Shekar Suman and Navjot Singh Siddhu and many many more....

Well, probably one important attribute that made all these reality shows a hit was the audience participation through SMS. When Star's KBC-2 was launched in June this year, it received 700,000 messages from people who wanted to be on the show (including me). And all these messages were routed through Airtel (which partnered with KBC) and it cost me 6 Rs. per message.

The whole Indian telecom air is crowded with messages these days, rather than talk time. A guy forwarding a funny message to all his friends, boys/girls chatting via SMS, banking transactions, news headlines, cricket scores, tickets, ring tones, wall papers and now even spamming! (Airtel on average sends out at least 6 spams everyday)....

So, keeping all this in mind, here's a few popular short codes which can come in handy.

2424 - Aaj Tak - for news headlines and polls.
8888 - Indiatimes - news, ring tones, wallpapers
4646 - Hungama - games
8243 - Yahoo! - ring tones, wallpapers

Ariyaatha pillakku choriyumbol ariyum!

As a kid/teenager, my only source of information to learn malayalam was Manorama Publications' Balaram, a children's fortnightly and my granny. I still vividly remember how she used to teach me the basics of malayalam whenever I come to Kerala on vacations. My granny was also a great source of amazement for me as she used malaylam proverbs or the so called "pazham chollu" every now and then. These proverbs, though small in length and use, had deep insights! Though I can read/write Malayalam today, thx to Balarama and my granny, I used to miss her proverbs a lot. But not anymore!!
