The publishing BPOs charge clients, rates as high as $50 per page for composing a college textbook. For a elementary school text book it’s between $35-$40 per page, almost seven times the billing rates in voice-based BPOs.
The publishing BPO industry is already $300 million strong. Global publishing majors like Elsevier, McGraw Hill, Cambridge, John Wiley, Clover, Royal Academy Publishers, Pearson and Tailor & Francis outsource to India.
Big Indian BPOs include Techbooks, Thomson Press, Innodata, Planman ITeS and Quark. According to sources, Wipro and Reliance are also planning forays.
