Mukesh Ambani promoted Reliance Industries big retail push, which investments to the tune of $5 to $6 billion is finally in the offing with tentative date kept as August 1, 2006. Initially, according to sources, it will be targeted at Tier 1 cities of Gujarat and Punjab.
In other news, Reliance is planning a mega Rs. 4000 crore investment in the left dominated West Bengal.
"The proposed project primarily entails investments in the areas of retailing and gas distribution. Besides, the group is understood to have discussed taking over the Haringhata Dairy farm."
PS: It is to be noted that BPO/IT industry comes under the Essential Services Act in West Bengal, which entails BPO companies to work even on a bandh/harthal day. WB is the first state to do so. Kerala, are you listening??

no only Kerala, all states should follow this. Almost a month of official holiday plus this bandh.
ReplyDeleteTrue Anand... But what's happening in Kerala is totally bizzare. Investors who know that there is enough talent in Kerala are unwilling to invest because of the laziness of people around. I have been working in Coimbatore for the past 5 years and haven't seen a bandh which affects a common man even for 1 day! Now compare that to Kerala, am scared to go to my native during weekends coz you never know when the next strike will start. This isn't democracy at its best, this is laziness at its best. These same Mallus who are reluctant to work small time in Kerala end up being the most hard working lot when they migrate to Dubai or othr such places!
