India Calling!

Economic Times has come up with a step by step guide for a college kid fresh out of college on how to bell the BPO cat! It's refreshing to see the mainstream media finally come out of the chuckles are write something possitive about the BPO/call center industry than crib about it...

"Visit any call centre and the picture you get is quite different from the sweatshops that they are alleged to be. However, if the industry has boomed (and how!) in India, and is projected to be one of the largest employers of the future (6.5 million workers in less than another 10 years), it is because of the demanding nature of the job, the rigorously monitored operations, and careful employee selection. The call centre way of life has been sweeping modern business, bringing with it a whole new set of values and processes that young adults are only too glad to follow.

Apart from the BPO industry, you would be hard pressed to think of another. And among the BPOs, it is the call centres that are gaining a reputation for being ‘fun’ places to work for wet-behind-the-ears college graduates.

The BPO lifestyle is synonymous with lots of hard work and lots of fun. So, what do you need to know before you opt for a career in a contact center? Find out... "

Ariyaatha pillakku choriyumbol ariyum!

As a kid/teenager, my only source of information to learn malayalam was Manorama Publications' Balaram, a children's fortnightly and my granny. I still vividly remember how she used to teach me the basics of malayalam whenever I come to Kerala on vacations. My granny was also a great source of amazement for me as she used malaylam proverbs or the so called "pazham chollu" every now and then. These proverbs, though small in length and use, had deep insights! Though I can read/write Malayalam today, thx to Balarama and my granny, I used to miss her proverbs a lot. But not anymore!! Thanks to this Wikipedia link , forwarded to me by Vinay
