Here are some interesting nuggets to give you the feel of how the two pillars of Indian cinema fare in comparison. The average number of films made in Hindi is about 250 while it touches 500 in all the south Indian languages put together. The biggest Hindi hit last year, Bunty aur Babli, grossed Rs. 45 crores which pales against the Rs.110 crores raked in by Rajinikanth's Chandramukhi.
The average daily attendance is just about 40% at theatres screening Hindi films while it is 75% for south Indian languages. Indian cinema churns out the highest number of films outside of Hollywood. But the true range of the industry is quite amazing because of the number of languages in which the films are made. There are in all about 22 different languages and dialects spoken in this country. We make films in at least 10 of them. However, to an average viewer it seems that the world of Indian films begins and ends with Hindi cinema.
Of course, it is a huge establishment and money that is pumped into the projects there are simply, mind-boggling. The fate of the Hindi film stars, the Khan clan, decides the barometer of the health of the industry. Every move of theirs is followed closely. Every word uttered by them is faithfully noted .
There is however a lion of a performer if you move out of Bollywood and the trophy goes to regional cinema. Much as it would seem that we are trying to fan the controversy of the Hindi vs other cinema, there are figures to prove that south Indian cinema comes out with flying colours by any performance yardstick. Hindi cinema is like a giant moving about puffing and panting while south Indian cinema is a vibrant, thriving stallion. There is organic growth in the industry down south.
They get picked for projects in Hindi as well. The south Indian stars are famous for their discipline and professionalism and the industry is famous for its organized working style.

Most stupid blog post I have ever seen. Rajnikanth may be charging 15 crores for a movie but then that includes his royalty. In that sense, you will have to slap yourself to see how much SRK and Amitabh Bachan earns.
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me what is the biggest tamil movie grosser this year? Hindi movie krish has earned 180 crore in just 13 weeks. How many tamil movies have earned that much this year?
Dont crap about barometer and hindi movie industry. Tamil industry is hundred times more fanatic than bollywood. So get your facts straight there.
And keep your figures to village illetrates about how you are better than hindi. We live in internet age and you dont try to bluff around. Before using words like puffing and panting, learn how to wear pants.
In short, you are complete unfit to blog. Stop writing nonsense. Come out of Tamil Nadu and see how world is much more than just chennai. Then think of using computer. Until then keep your nonsense and stupid talks to yourself.
