The Indian government has announced a ban on children working as domestic servants or in roadside food stalls.
The order, which applies to children under 14, will come into effect in October, officials say.
It also bans children from teashops, restaurants, hotels, motels, resorts, spas or other recreational centres.
There are estimated to be more than 12.6 million child workers in India, many of whom work as domestic helps or in small roadside restaurants.

very good news indeed!!! many hotels here in kerala employ poor kids from the economically backward districts of tamil nadu and ill-treat them like anything.. it really is a pity and often spoils your mood of enjoying a tasty meal..But at the same time efforts must be taken to rehabilate these kids and give them economic support, otherwise it will amount to nothing.

Hi Sunup, you said it right, but a small correction, it happens not only in Kerala it happens in almost all the states in India.
ReplyDeleteOf course as you said, what will this 12 odd million child labors do once they are out of the job that serves them at least a day's meal, a temporary shelter, and clothing of somekind?
does the government have any plan ... ?
is that why they have given a timeline till October?
God only knows
