I've been a great admirer of Amul's print ads and have also even written about it. But I believe they gave the assignment this time to a new copy writer!!
From trying to be cool, I think Amul has gone terribly wrong here by mocking thousands of call center employees! Every profession has its own profanity and BPO is nonetheless different.
For those of you who didn't get the gist of this ad, they are mocking a recent obscene phone call made to a call centre executive by a US based radio jockey.
RC, you have hit the nail on the head...
ReplyDelete- JvK
U guys have gone bonkers or somethin!! The ad doesn't mock the call center employees. They are just depicting the indecisiveness of the call center employees to whether or not attend abusing calls.
ReplyDeleteAnd JVK, what does "you have hit the nail on the head" mean relating to this news?????
Guys,
ReplyDeleteIf you notice closely at the ad, the two clouds above the cartoon charaters have six stars and five stars (*#$*@* and *&%$* or something like that).
In my experience in abusive languages and profanity, I have come across majorly four star words or more clearly "FOUR-LETTER WORDS" or to be frank and precise, the f-word!!!
These five and six letter words seem to mean something else.
Let's forget about it and carry on with our work.
or to put it my way, f*** it!!!!
--- now that's what you call being decently profane!
S. I agree with u, Mr. anonymous 1. No one is "humorous" enough 2 understand the concept...
ReplyDeleteC, it's a very simple concept. Even though there is vulgarity, obscenity and all sort of those stuffs in the call center job, guys r opting it for the hefty pay. Similarly, Amul is selling "vennai," a obscene word in Tamil, but it is good for health.
Oops, I forgot the one which I intended!
Thank God we need not have 2 talk with corp. spkrs or analysts..
Maame,

ReplyDeleteUS radio jockeys suspended for a day
THE POWER of Indian community protests has worked. Two acerbic FM radio jockeys of
Philadelphia who berated an Indian call centre girl with filthy abuses have been suspended -
only for a day, though. The otherwise popular 'Power 99 FM' station has also issued an
apology for the sexist and racist outbursts that went on air - all in the name of a "comedy
segment", purportedly poking fun at outsourcing.
"The Star and amp; Buc Wild show prides itself on walking on the edge. On December 15th, we
crossed it. We know the pain racial slurs cause and apologise that this comedy segment went
too far," the radio station said on its website.
The African-American duo, styling itself as "The Original Haters", had played a taped
conversation with the Indian call centre employee in the course of which 'Star' (whose real
name is Troi Torain) turned aggressive, calling her a "bitch" and "filthy rat eater".
The conversation was a supposed follow-up of an order for hair beads worn by girls. When the
Indian employee told him she will hang up if he continued in that offensive vein, Star
threatened he will go to India and choke her. Star capped it all by derisive laughter. For
three weeks, few outside Philadelphia knew what had happened. Then, on January 6, the
segment was posted on the station's website, and the storm broke.
Several blogs (including the DesiBlog) took over and the station was flooded with protest
emails. Some Indian activists had threatened to approach the Federal Communications
Commission (FCC). This may have prompted the station to come up with its belated apology on
Tuesday evening.
