Ticket prices slashed!

The exorbitant rates exorted by movie halls in Tamilnadu will come to cease now as the government has decided to have a ceiling of Rs. 50 as the maximum fee for an A/C Theatre in Tamilnadu.

The minimum rate for tickets in cinema halls with AC facility in metros have been fixed at Rs. 10 while the maximum rate has been pegged at Rs. 50. For non-AC theatres, the minimum fare is Rs. 7 and the maximum is Rs. 30.

For AC theatres in municipal areas, the rate is minimum Rs 5 and maximum Rs 40 and for non-AC theatres, the minimum is R 4 and maximum is Rs 30.

Previously theaters were allowed to hike rates as they wish for new releases in the first two weeks and I remember paying up to Rs. 200 per ticket for a new Hindi movie released at Apsara. Although, this will mean no more "full time" A/C in theaters a.k.a they will switch off the A/C once the movie starts and then switch it on before Interval. Plus the added menace of bugs and increased parking charges!!

Ariyaatha pillakku choriyumbol ariyum!

As a kid/teenager, my only source of information to learn malayalam was Manorama Publications' Balaram, a children's fortnightly and my granny. I still vividly remember how she used to teach me the basics of malayalam whenever I come to Kerala on vacations. My granny was also a great source of amazement for me as she used malaylam proverbs or the so called "pazham chollu" every now and then. These proverbs, though small in length and use, had deep insights! Though I can read/write Malayalam today, thx to Balarama and my granny, I used to miss her proverbs a lot. But not anymore!!
