Maruti Udyog's Swift, termed as the biggest thing to happen for the company since the M800 and said to be Suzuki's most attractive and stylish vehicle, is set for a May 27 launch in India.
It is aligned with the release of Yashraj Films' Bollywood flick Bunty Aur Bubli, featuring Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee. In a carefully planned move, the marketing whizkids associated with Swift have managed to strategically place the new car in the Shaad Ali-directed movie and the plan is to launch both products simultaneously on the same day.
However, neither Maruti nor the film production house is revealing the car's role in the movie. “It's like revealing the climax of a thriller,” was all Maruti officials were willing to say. “We have done our part. Wait and watch the film, which also features Amitabh Bachchan,” sources associated with the film said.
Meanwhile, Maruti has now established a special sales force, comprising about 1,000 freshly recruited youngsters, from across the country, to exclusively sell Swift. They will be placed at all the 212 Maruti dealerships and their sales outlets and focus their attention only on selling Swift to customers.
Swift, Suzuki's first global car, has so far been launched in Japan and recently in Europe. In India, it will be launched with a 1.3 litre petrol engine and will be positioned in the upper-end of the 'B' segment which also has Hyundai's Getz, Ford Fusion, Fiat Palio and GM's Sail.
