EDS Vs. Call Center

EDS B beats Call Center by 87 runs!

Dr. GB Stadium, KG Gardens – May 28, 2005:

In what can be termed as a total “wash out” match, the EDS B team beat the call center folks by 87 runs and they dominated the lion’s share of the game. Donning bright red tees, EDS team won the toss and elected to bat taking into account early morning dew that was present in the pitch. They got off to a good start thanks to the opening duo of skipper Gnanasekar and Hariprasad. Hariprasad played a fantastic innings and scored 42 runs before getting run out, which included four boundaries. After the opening pair got out, EDS went to a defensive mode with the middle order collapsing quickly coz of some good bowling from the Call Center team. It is to be noted that Karthik and Gary (Skipper) came back strongly in their second spell and took 4 wickets in quick succession. But EDS by then was in a good position and ended their innings at 116/9 in 20 overs.

Clad in bright yellow tees, Call Center team had a disastrous start to their innings and lost wickets regularly, thanks to the good line and length maintained by the bowling team. EDS fielded exceptionally well and kept the deliveries mostly on the off side as the ball was not coming to bat and they took good advantage of the dew in the pitch. After 9 overs, Call Center team was at 23/7 with only two in-form batsmen at the crease. It could have been finished earlier, had it not been for the rain that interrupted the play for a few minutes.

The game was marked with some great fielding and diving catches by Krishnaswamy (canteen boy) who was donning the Call Center cap. Harilkumar of EDS was the pick among the bowlers who took 2 wickets for 5 runs in 3 overs.

Ariyaatha pillakku choriyumbol ariyum!

As a kid/teenager, my only source of information to learn malayalam was Manorama Publications' Balaram, a children's fortnightly and my granny. I still vividly remember how she used to teach me the basics of malayalam whenever I come to Kerala on vacations. My granny was also a great source of amazement for me as she used malaylam proverbs or the so called "pazham chollu" every now and then. These proverbs, though small in length and use, had deep insights! Though I can read/write Malayalam today, thx to Balarama and my granny, I used to miss her proverbs a lot. But not anymore!!
