Dr. GB Stadium, KG Gardens – May 28, 2005:
In the scorching summer heat, it was the clash of the tech geeks, with Software A taking on their colleagues Software B. Software B, in coffee brown tees, won the toss and elected to bat. The match started with an overwhelming number of extras and one could hear the crowd betting with each other on how many extras would be bowled in an over. The fall of wickets was steady, but S/W B never had to worry, because the run rate was always up thanks to some generous extras. They ended their innings with 76 runs with everyone raring to take a few glasses of water.
The situation was not very different with Software B also flaking in the sun by bowling too many extras. At one point, S/W A had more runs in their kitty as extras than actual runs. The climate soon changed sour, with rain looming large in the skies. One could see that S/W A was rushing in to finish their innings and took a well-paid gamble. They hit hard and soon after the drinks break, the match was over with S/W A winning the match by 7 wickets.
